2026: Our New Home

The Flicks has officially found its new home in a fully renovated Khmer townhouse on #29, Street 320, in BKK3, Phnom Penh (next to Tuol Sleng Museum). Featuring a ground-floor lobby lounge bar and an air-conditioned 28-seats movie room upstairs, the beloved community theater opens its doors for special Opening Days on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September 2026.

Do you remember the feeling? The lights dimming slowly, the rustle of popcorn bowls delivered into the room, and that beautiful moment of collective anticipation just before the screen came alive with stories that made us laugh, cry, think, and dream together.

Since 2021, there’s been an art house theater-shaped hole in Phnom Penh’s cultural landscape. We asked for your help in finding The Flicks a new home. You sent us leads, tips, and encouragement, and we went out and walked through more buildings than we can count. Today we can finally say it: we found it.

We Found Our New Home

The Flicks is returning in a beautifully restored traditional Khmer townhouse in the heart of BKK3, just a short walk from the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum. Its central location makes the community movie theater easily accessible for residents from across Phnom Penh.

What’s inside:

  • A ground floor lobby lounge with a proper bar, where pre-show drinks and post-show conversations belong
  • An intimate, air-conditioned and comfy movie room on the floor above with 28 seats on rattan sofas and lounge beds at the front. The magic happens in this room.

It’s a building with character in a neighborhood that many of you called home for The Flicks. We can’t agree more.

Why This Matters

The Flicks was never just about watching movies.

It was about the foreign expat who found comfort in films from home. The Cambodian student discovering international cinema for the first time. The Game of Thrones superfan who rushed in every Monday, breathless with anticipation for the latest episode. The travelers sharing stories over pre-show drinks. The regular who came every Thursday, like clockwork, creating their own ritual in a bustling city.

When our doors closed in 2021, we didn’t just lose a theater — we lost a sanctuary where Phnom Penh came together across cultures, languages, and backgrounds to share in the universal language of storytelling. Soon, that sanctuary has a second life.

The Sequel

Finding the space was the first act. In came the work of turning a beautiful old townhouse into an actual little community movie theater: the screen, the movie room, the lounge beds, the lobby bar, and everything in between.

The pandemic taught us that nothing is permanent, but it also showed us the resilience of community. While we’ve been apart, you’ve kept The Flicks alive in your memories, in home movie nights, in the many messages asking when we might return. That time is finally here: our doors officially open on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September 2026 with special Opening Days.

With excitement and gratitude,
