Anaïs in Love

Charline Bourgeois-Tacquet’s feature directorial debut, Anaïs in Love (2021), is a breezy, vibrant French romantic comedy driven by pure chaotic energy.

The story follows Anaïs (Anaïs Demoustier), a thirty-something literature student who is perpetually behind on rent, struggling to finish her thesis, and darting through life at a breathless sprint. When she begins a casual affair with an older, married publisher named Daniel (Denis Podalydès), her trajectory takes an unexpected turn after she discovers his wife, Emilie (Valeria Bruni Tedeschi), an accomplished and elegant writer.

Anchored by a luminous, irrepressible performance from Demoustier and supported by the magnetic presence of Bruni Tedeschi, the film manages to be lighthearted without feeling superficial.

It captures the frantic, searching spirit of young adulthood while offering a refreshing, non-judgmental take on romantic triangles and self-discovery.
